"The seeds of your success are often sown during your failures."
It's easy to take failure personally. A hit to your confidence, intelligence, and personality. The reality is that many of our future successes are sown in the seeds of our past failures.
The key is twofold:
- Take each failure as a learning experience and an opportunity for improvement.
- Try to avoid the failures that completely knock you out of the game.
Failure is temporary as long as you don't quit.
"Are you playing to win on an external or internal scoreboard?"
Unknowingly, we chase what society deems important, only to reach the finish line unfulfilled.
Net worth, salary, and money are perfect examples of points on your external scoreboard.
Sahil explains the importance of questioning: Are you playing for others or for yourself?
You will almost never feel satisfied accomplishing someone else's goals.
You have to define what success means to you.
"Whether you win or lose, no one cares."
At face value, this sounds daunting.
The Spotlight Effect is a psychological phenomenon where people tend to overestimate how much others notice, judge, or remember their appearance, actions, and mistakes.
We worry and ruminate over what other people may think about our actions and choices.
The truth is, no one cares.
People are way too busy worrying about themselves.
Use this as an even stronger reason to focus on what's most important to you.

"I'm on the right path when I can wake up on any random Tuesday and feel excited for the day."
Sahil has a Random Tuesday Theory of Life where you can look forward to any Tuesday and can't wait to get out of bed.
Why Tuesday? It's near the middle of the week, so the excitement from last weekend is behind you, and you're too far away to start looking forward to the next weekend.
It's only Tuesday.
"I don't have a 10-year or even a 5-year plan — I just want to have a good day. A great life, in my opinion, is how many good days can I stack in a row?"
"Are your actions in line with your beliefs?"
If a third-party observer watched your habits, actions, and how you actually spend your time, would they align with your beliefs?
For example, you claim that health is important to you, but your actions suggest otherwise.
Many times we claim our beliefs are one way, but our actions tell a different story.
Take 5 minutes to reflect on the past handful of days as an objective third party: do your actions bring you closer to or further away from your beliefs?
"Live a life by design, not default."
It's easy to fall into a rut where it feels like life is simply happening to you.
You have more agency over your life than you think.
We convince ourselves that this is the way it has to be, or it's too late for me to make a change.
Many people know what they want to change, but feel intimidated by the 10,000 steps ahead of them.
Take one small step today towards the life you want.
"There are 5 types of wealth..."
When we hear "wealth," we immediately assume money or financial wealth. Financial wealth is absolutely a part of the equation, but wealth goes much deeper.
Understanding that "we aren't playing the wrong game, but playing the game wrong".
Sahil argues in his book The 5 Types of Wealth that success is a combination of financial, physical, social, mental, and time wealth.
Each type of wealth is weighted and prioritized in different stages of your life.
In your 20s, the wealth you seek will look very different from what it will look like in your 60s.
Your internal scoreboard should guide your actions and habits and define what a wealthy life looks like for you.
